MY STORY:  Being a fan of anything A&E produces, I tuned in to HH not knowing what to expect.  Low and behold I instantly loved it and was glued every Sunday to the t.v. in April 1999.  I even watched it the following Tuesday when the episode was re-ran!  I joined the Boards but initially did not post a whole lot.  I hooked up with Tracy C. through the IG List and she convinced me to attend the first HH gathering in Baltimore.  It was a blast to say the least!  From there, I joined the SW Florida Brigade (n/k/a Hornblower's Florida Division [HFD]) and we met at Skihee's house for a day filled with, what else, movies! I was fortunate enough to attend the dinner on The Grand Turk in London.  That was a thrill even though I did not stay long in the U.K.  Sweatpea hosted our HFD gathering in June 2000, which was a lot of fun -- even Tracy C. flew down for it!  I highly anticipated HH2000 in Chicago and was not disappointed! I became a full fledged Lieutenant when I hosted our HFD gathering in October 2000.  Who would have thought that through HH I would meet so many new friends who share this mania called Hornblower?  To borrow a phrase from Bracegirdle, "Long let it remain so."  And there you have it!
FAVORITE BOARD POST(S): "Reckon What He Smells Like," "How Low Would You Go" any Gush Slams, SSR's Pirate Story -- there are so many!
FAVORITE HH CHARACTER:  If I had to choose one, Horatio
FAVORITE HH MOVIE:  Duchess and The Devil (close second: Retribution)

MY OWN WEBSITE(S): No way dude! Where would I find the time?
MY STORY:   I saw the commercials for HH all the previous months before it aired and knew I wanted to see these immediately. I was taken with IG from just those short snips and I knew I was going to like the series. I remember checking out Mr. Midshipman Hornblower when I was in junior high school. I think the naval terminology put me off but I still wanted to read the books. After HH I read all eleven in a space of three months.

I first went on line with A&E to try to win the cruise they were giving away. I took the tests they gave and I remember there being questions pertaining to missing scenes. When I found out they had cut out 10 minutes from each film, I was appalled! And they were dumb enough to have questions about them on their test! Brother! Also, I taped the Making Of and saw things there that were not in the films! Anyway, I began taping the films the first time they ran, so I had the abridged copies. But I digress, I went on line during the films, but I was a computer novice and I did not know what a message board was! After the films were over, I hunted high and low for someone to talk to about HH and finally found the message boards. I think I posted there sometime the beginning of May. I was on an extended vacation that summer, so being immersed in reading the books I did not get back on line until July.

I read Alison James story Landfall and also a friend of mine did a composite pic of IG and someone I know and I began to write a story about how a British Naval Officer might meet an American, thus my epic fanfic called An American Encounter, which has turned into a trilogy. It is a romance, so if you don't care for romance don't bother to read it. It is definitely amateur and I write it more for my own enjoyment.

As far as HH functions. HH led me to meet Mary K here in Florida. I realized from her posts at A&E that she was somewhere in Florida. We emailed and arranged to meet here in Orlando. She was my first flesh and blood Hornblower nut to meet in person! We met at Barnes and Noble and talked for two hours and could have gone longer! She invited me to a meeting down towards Sarasota with Lt. PJ, Sweetpea, HRM, and she, so the five of us met, had our pic on Hornblower Lane in Sarasota courtesy of Stormy the Dog's pet human.

Next, at two weeks out, I decided I had to go to the Baltimore HH get together, so Karen Rugg found a room for me with the Bartholomew girls. They were very kind and the weekend was a marvel!

Then, seeing the unfolding dinner plans on the robertlindsay list, I signed up for the Grand Turk Dinner in London. I had not been to the UK since 1988, my oldest daughter was old enough to appreciate such travel, so she and I went for two weeks, our last night being the Grand Turk Dinner. I was fortunate to meet Ioan Gruffudd, Sean Gilder, and Colin McLauglin, and the Turk crew, especially Seb who is a super nice guy. That was a marvelous experience and I fell in love with Horatio Nelson to boot!

In March, the weekend before we left for London, the Florida HH group got together for a sleepover in Sarasota once again. And in June, we all met at Sweetpea's parents house in St. Petersburg. They are a great bunch of gals and much fun to be with. We have a meeting set in October at Disney World for an overnight.

Finally, I remembered he was the young man I thought was so cute in Titanic but never knew his name. I too was glued to my TV for four consecutive Sundays and Tuesdays. MY STORY: My story -  well, it started when I was little.  My Dad liked reading Horatio Hornblower.  He told me that it was like the story of a famous Naval hero Horatio Nelson.  So, I used to think that Nelson's middle name was Hornblower.

Fast forward to Spring 1999 -- I am watching a commercial for A&E's Horatio Hornblower and think, Wow, look at that guy! Hey, this is that series that Dad likes, why don't I tape it for him. Well, as I am taping part one, I get hooked. I go to the website for A&E and get all the info I can. By the third week, I find the message boards. I found a bunch of people who shared my same interests and never left.

Since joining the fray, I have been a traveling fool and gotten a lot of colds.  Every time I go on a trip, I come back with a cold.  But, thanks to Hornblower, I have gone to see my homeland and now know I can gladly spend my life in the UK.  I have met many interesting people and friends and hope this lasts a lifetime.

MY STORY: I didn't see the shows until they came on A&E's classroom in the summer of 1999. I started searching the web for info on the stars (particularly Ioan Gruffudd, with whom I was quite taken) and on the Forester series in general. I dropped one post onto the old Cast Board and was immediately welcomed by twenty or so people egging me on to post more. So I did. I've discovered a love of writing fiction after a lifetime of essays and technical reports, made great friends with whom I really enjoy sharing our various writing projects and helping each other to get better, and have finally met some of my boardmates in person. It isn't easy being stuck in the middle of nowhere with no one who shares your interests, so I'm so glad that A&E gave us this great place to connect with others who loved the series and had our interest sparked in learning more about the history of the era and the literature written about it. I've always been a great admirer of British actors and films, so it is only natural that I also became very interested hunting down and viewing other projects featuring the main stars of the HH series. I have seen much of Ioan's work, much of Jamie Bamber's work, three more movies starring Robert Lindsay, and two of Sean Gilder's other features. But when I saw Sam West in something other than Hornblower, I knew I'd struck paydirt and I haven't stopped digging since! I have become an avid collector of his movies and audiobooks and it has been great fun to share these with fellow fans via our circulating Sam West library! I am also a member of HHFic and the Sam West egroup lists.
FAVORITE BOARD POST(S): Just about anything started by ladylove or Nashville Chick, How Low Would You Go, What's Your Dirty Little Secret; and all of Ginger and PJ's hilarious gushing. I like the thoughtful Main Board posts, but I go to Cast to relax and laugh and gush.

MY OWN WEBSITE(S): Dedicated to Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain: http://members.tripod.com/chamberlainfan
MY STORY: I was born a poor black child...... Wait, that’s already been done!

Anyway, I got started on this journey one Saturday night in February of 1999. I was watching The Scarlet Pimpernel on A&E and I saw a preview for Hornblower. Nice looking character, tall ships, battles..... I was hooked! I love period pieces and history, so this one was a natural for me.

I first logged on to the A&E website in May of 1999, and I’ve been there ever since. I continue to be amazed at the power of what we have found.  Many of the friendships we have made through this experience will endure for a lifetime. I am beyond belief proud to be a part of this phenomenon.

I have to give an extra nod to the members of Hornblower’s Florida Division. You gals are a wonderful group, and I am pleased and proud to be your commander. But I am even more pleased to count all of you as friends. You are whacky, funny, offbeat, witty, a kick in the pants, and the best bunch of ladies I’ve ever had a sleepover with! Thanks a million for being a part of my life! Even if you won’t let me call our gang Edrington’s Florida Battalion, I still love you!

As for me personally, I’m a native of New Jersey and I’ve lived in Florida for nearly 14 years. I graduated from the University of Florida in 1991. I am a sports freak, a wrench head, a speed junkie, a history buff, and a wannabe physical therapist.

Geez! When do I find time for Hornblower?

FAVORITE BOARD POST(S): Anything funny/whacky/zany. I really loved Ladylove’s “When all your dreams come true”, in which she lampooned me and my Sam West fixation, but my all time favorite would have to be Argent’s “Happy Hour Aboard the Indy”.
FAVORITE HH CHARACTER: Do you really have to ask? Major Edrington, of course! I know he’s only in one of the films, but he is by far the best!
FAVORITE HH MOVIE: Toss-up between The Fire Ships and Mutiny. The Fire Ships for
Hornblower's development as a character and Mutiny for Mister Bush. :)
FAVORITE HH LINE: “When we put on this uniform, we entered into a life of
adventure and adversity.”
